Egyptian pyramids - the tombs of the Egyptian pharaohs. The largest of them - the pyramids of Cheops, Khafre and Mikerin in El-Giza in ancient times were considered one of the Seven Wonders of the World. The construction of the pyramid, in which the Greeks and Romans already saw a monument to the unprecedented pride of kings and cruelty that doomed the entire Egyptian people to senseless construction, was the most important cult act and was supposed to express, as you can see, the mystical identity of the country and its ruler.

The people worked on the construction of pyramids in the part of the year free from agricultural work. There are preserved texts testifying to the attention and care that the kings themselves (albeit of later times) devoted to the construction of their tomb and its builders. It is also known about the special cult honors that were given to the pyramid itself.

Description of the most famous pyramids (briefly)

The Pyramid of Cheops (Khufu), the Great Pyramid, is the face of the Egyptian pyramids and the largest structure of antiquity, giving rise to many secrets and legends around itself. It took two decades to build the pyramid. Dynasty IV construction time 2600 BC e. Located in Giza. The original height is 146.60 m, today it is 138.75 m. The base measures 230 m. It was the largest structure in the world for over 4,000 years.

The pyramid has not one, but three burial halls. One is below ground level and two are above the baseline. Intertwining passageways lead to the burial chambers. It is possible to walk along them to the chamber of the pharaoh, to the chamber of his wife and to the lower hall. The pharaoh's chamber is a pink granite chamber, measuring 10 x 5 m. A granite sarcophagus without a lid is installed in it. Not a single report of the researchers mentioned the found mummies, therefore it is not known whether Cheops was buried here. It should be noted that the mummy of Cheops was not found in other tombs either.

After the Great Wall of China, it is she who is the largest structure that has ever been erected in the entire history of mankind.

The second most important is the pyramid of Chephren, the son of Cheops. It was found during archaeological excavations in 1860. The tomb of this ancient Egyptian king is "guarded" by the famous Sphinx, which looks like a lion lying on the sand, whose face may have been given the features of Khafre himself. Near the pyramid of Khafre there is a separate pyramid for his wife, a temple, a port and a fence wall.

The estimated time of the construction of the pyramid is the middle of the XXVI century BC. e. It was built on a 10-meter plateau, so it seems higher than the Cheops pyramid, but this is not entirely true. The original height is 143.9 m, today it is 136.4 m. The dimensions of the base are 210.5 m. The pyramid was decorated with a pink granite pyramidion, which is now lost. We have no information about whether the granite was adorned with limestone, gypsum, or gold.

The third great pyramid is the Pyramid of Mikerin (also known as the "Pyramid of Menkaure"). She is the smallest of them, and was built later than others. Time of construction of the 4th dynasty (approximately 2540-2520 BC) The original height is 65.55 m, today it is 62 m.The dimensions of the base are 102.2 × 104.6 m.According to eyewitnesses, the pyramid Menkaura was the most beautiful of all the pyramids. Sculpture during the reign of Menkaur was characterized by the highest quality of artistic performance. In addition, the Pyramid of Mikerin marked the end of the era of the great pyramids. All subsequent structures were small in size.

One of the largest in Egypt is the step pyramid of Djoser. Time of construction of the III Dynasty (about 2650 BC). It is located in the village of Sakkara, and was built for Pharaoh Djoser by Imhotep himself. The original height is 62.5 m, nowadays - 62 m. The size of the pyramid is 125 m × 115 m. This is the first pyramid in Egypt, in addition to all it is very well preserved.

Initially, Imhotep was going to create an ordinary stone mastaba (rectangular tomb). Only in the process of construction did it turn into the first step pyramid. The meaning of the steps was, as it is believed, symbolic - the deceased pharaoh had to climb to heaven along them.

The burial complex included chapels, courtyards, and storage facilities. The base of the six-step pyramid itself is not square, but rectangular. Inside the structure there are 12 burial chambers, where Djoser himself and his family members could probably have been buried. The pharaoh's mummy was not found during excavations. The entire territory of the complex of 15 hectares was surrounded by a 10-meter stone wall. Now part of the wall and other buildings have been restored.

The most unusual pyramid in Medum. Time of construction III Dynasty (about 2680 BC) Located 100 km south of the capital of Egypt, it was built for Pharaoh Huni, the last ruler of the III dynasty, but it was completed by his son Sneferu. It originally had eight steps, but today only the last three are visible. The original height is 93.5 m, today it is 65 m.The base is 144 m.

Its unusual forms were first reported by Al-Maqrizi in the 15th century. The pyramid had a stepped shape. In his essays, Al-Maqrizi described a pyramid consisting of 5 steps, and also that it had serious damage from erosion and from the removal of masonry by local residents.

Pink Pyramid or Northern Pyramid. Dynasty IV construction time (from about 2640 to 2620 BC) The original height is 109.5 m, today it is 104 m.The base is 220 m.The northern pyramid of Pharaoh Sneferu in Dakhshur, at the time its construction in the XXVI century BC. e. was the tallest structure in the world. Now it is the third highest pyramid in Egypt, after Khufu and Khafre in Giza.

It is unusual in that it has a pink hue thanks to a special stone that was used in the construction. Researchers believe that this pyramid was erected by the already mentioned Pharaoh Sneferu. The "Pink" pyramid was not always pink. Previously, its walls were covered with white limestone. However, in our time, white limestone is almost completely absent, since even in the Middle Ages, a significant part of it was removed for the construction of houses in Cairo, as a result of which pinkish limestone was exposed.

Not far from Rozova is the Broken ("cut" or "diamond-shaped") pyramid. Dynasty IV (XXVI century BC) Initial height - 104.7 m, nowadays - 101.1 m. The base is 189.4 m. It got its name because of its irregular shape. It was built in three stages, at each of which different angles of inclination were given to it. It differs from other Egyptian pyramids in that the pyramid has an entrance not only on the north side, which was the standard, but also a second entrance, which is open higher on the west side.

Explaining the non-standard shape of the pyramid, the German Egyptologist Ludwig Borchardt (1863-1938) put forward his "increment theory". According to her, the king died suddenly and the angle of inclination of the pyramid's faces was sharply changed from 54 ° 31 min. up to 43 ° 21 min., for the fastest completion of work.

What is known about the Egyptian pyramids

Building pyramids

The slabs weighing at least 2.5 tons, from which the pyramids were built, were cut out of stone in a nearby quarry and transported to the construction site by dragging using ramps, blocks and levers. There is an opinion, recognized by the scientific community as marginal, that concrete was used during the construction of the pyramid, that is, the slabs were made directly at the construction site. At the tops of the pyramids, traces of wooden forms have been preserved to this day, erased at the base by numerous sandstorms. To prevent cracking of the walls of the pyramids as a result of the compression-expansion process, the individual blocks were separated by thin layers of mortar. The slope of the outer walls is exactly 45 °. The surface was covered with blocks of polished white limestone. After the fall, the limestone was stretched locals for your needs.

What is encrypted in the pyramids

What is the secret of the Egyptian pyramids? Why, for almost 5 millennia, they do not cease to excite the imagination of everyone who saw them? What assumptions were not put forward about this: they were built by aliens, they encrypted the astronomical, magical knowledge of the ancient priests, they contain a prediction of the future. Digital magic was great to such an extent popular that by measuring it across the board and adding up the results, amateurs could predict anything.

Why were the pyramids built?

Even the debate about whether the pyramids are in fact the tombs of the pharaohs does not stop today. Some of the researchers believe that these are temples where the sun god Amun-Ra was ordained as servants of the cult, others that the pyramid is a huge scientific laboratory of the ancients. Someone argues that the pyramids are huge natural generators of earthly energy, in which the pharaohs were “charged” with this energy for a long time, even rejuvenated and prepared for state activity. And then they were buried near the pyramids, in small rooms, perhaps near the funeral temples.

The pyramids delighted many of the greats of this world:, Cleopatra,. The latter, in order to inspire his grenadiers during the Egyptian campaign, he first exclaimed: "The pyramids are looking at you", and then instantly calculated in his mind that out of two and a half million boulders of the Cheops pyramid, one could build a wall around France three meters high.

Interesting facts about the Egyptian pyramids

All Egyptian pyramids were erected on the western bank of the Nile River, which is the place of sunset and was associated with the kingdom of the dead in Egyptian mythology.

The sides of the pyramids are curved by one meter, so that they could accumulate solar energy. Thanks to this, the pyramids could reach thousands of degrees and emit an incomprehensible rumble from such an intensity.

Despite the intense heat that reigns around the pyramids, the temperature in them in reality remains relatively constant and keeps around 20 ° C.

The Egyptian pyramids also have this feature. The stone blocks are located so that there are no gaps between them, even the thinnest blade will not fit through.

The Great Pyramid is made up of 2.3 million blocks that are perfectly aligned and fit together. The blocks weigh from 2 to 30 tons, and some of them even reach over 50 tons.

Although many people associate pyramids with hieroglyphs, no inscriptions or hieroglyphs have been found in the Great Pyramid of Giza.

Estimates of the number of workers involved in the construction of the pyramids vary greatly, however, it is quite possible that at least 100 thousand people built them.

Three large pyramids on the Giza plateau copy the "Orion Belt" from the constellation Orion on Earth. The Pyramid of Cheops and the similarly sized pyramid of Khafre take the places of the two brightest stars of the Orion belt, Al-Nitak and Al-Nilam, and the smaller Menkaur pyramid is offset from the axis of the two neighboring ones, just like the third and smallest star of the belt, Mintaka.

Buildings similar to the Egyptian pyramids can also be found in Sudan, where the tradition was later adopted.

Each side of the pyramid is located in the direction of one side of the world.

It was calculated that large necropolises with that level of technology should have been built in at least a century. How, for example, was the Cheops pyramid built in just 20 years?

In the 12th century, an attempt was made to destroy the pyramids of Giza. Al-Azis, the Kurdish ruler and second sultan of the Ayyubid dynasty, tried to demolish them, but he was forced to retreat, as the task was too large-scale. And yet, he was able to damage the Pyramid of Mikerin, where, due to his attempts, a vertical gaping hole was left in its northern slope.

The pyramids are one of the many evidences in favor of the existence in those ancient times of a certain developed civilization. Meanwhile, that era fits into the time frame of the existence of the legendary Atlantis, although no one undertakes to assert that the civilization that built the early pyramids was in fact the civilization of the Atlanteans.

Tourist info

The Giza Great Pyramids Complex is open from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm every day, except during the winter months (open until 4:30 pm) and the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, when access closes at 3:00 pm.

Some of the travelers believe that if the pyramids are in the open air and are not a museum in the literal sense of the word, then here you can behave freely, climb onto these structures. It should be remembered: it is strictly forbidden to do so - in the interests of your own safety!

Before entering the pyramids, you need to objectively assess your psychological state and physical health. For those who are afraid of closed spaces (claustrophobia), it is better to skip this part of the tour. Due to the fact that the inside of the tombs is usually dry, hot and a little dusty, asthmatics, hypertensive patients and those suffering from other diseases of the cardiovascular and nervous system are not recommended to enter here.

How much does an excursion to the zone of the Egyptian pyramids cost a tourist? The cost has several components. The entrance ticket will cost you 60 Egyptian pounds, which is approximately equal to 8 euros. Would you like to visit the Cheops pyramid? For this you will have to pay 100 pounds or 13 euros. Inspection from the inside of the Khafre pyramid is largely cheaper - 20 pounds or 2.60 euros.

You will have to pay separately for visiting the Sun Boat Museum, which is located south of the Cheops pyramid (40 pounds or 5 euros). Taking photographs in the pyramid zone is allowed, but for the right to take photographs you will have to pay 1 euro. Visits to other pyramids on the territory of Giza - for example, the mother and wife of Pharaoh Khafre - are not paid.

The Great Pyramid, the last remaining miracle from the ancient list of seven wonders of the world, is a fantastic masterpiece of engineering, not only because of its gigantic size. It weighs 6.5 million tons and contains more building material than it took to build all the cathedrals, churches and chapels in England! Its uniqueness also lies in the exceptional accuracy of the orientation of the faces in the countries of the world. The error is an insignificant amount - 0.015 percent! Today, achieving such accuracy would require the use of laser theodolites, topographic maps with a resolution of 10 meters, and an army of engineers, astronomers, and masons.

By the way, the word Pyramid does not define a three-dimensional triangle, nor is its root even Egyptian. The word Pyramid is composed of the Greek word "pyra" in the meaning of fire, light (or visible) and the Greek word "midos" in the meaning of measures (another meaning is the middle (inside)). The fact is that until 1301, when, after a strong earthquake, the Arabs began to use the shaky cladding for the construction and restoration of the palaces and mosques of the destroyed Cairo, the Khufu Pyramid (of Cheops in ancient Greek transcription / 2590-2568 BC /. ), which had an initial height of 146.6 meters (now 138 meters), was lined with polished limestone slabs. Part of the lining (22 upper rows) was still preserved on the Chefren pyramid. They were so brilliant that they could be seen hundreds of kilometers away.

The base of the Pyramid resting on a granite surface with a horizontal deviation of no more than two cm is an almost perfect square (maximum deviation of 3 minutes 33 seconds) with sides about 230 meters (north 230.1, west and east 230.2, south 230.3). And the entire structure, which today consists of 203 rows of masonry, was erected without cranes, wheels and powerful stone-cutting tools. Why did ancient architects achieve such high accuracy, if this accuracy could not even be seen with a simple eye?

One of the answers to these questions, perhaps, lies in the desire of ancient architects to encrypt certain fundamental numerical values \u200b\u200bin the dimensions of the Great Pyramid. And this requires high dimensional accuracy. As a result, for example, the ratio of the length of the base of the pyramid to its height, divided in half, gives the famous number "pi" (the ratio of the circumference to its diameter) accurate to the sixth digit! This number is also mentioned in the ancient Egyptian papyrus Rinda (stored in the British Museum in London). Perhaps it is intentionally encrypted in the dimensions of the Cheops Pyramid, moreover, with a more accurate meaning than the great Archimedes, who lived 2000 years later, knew!

This idea inspired enthusiasts to search for other fundamental relationships in the Cheops Pyramid.

Astronomical calendar

Egyptologist Graham Hancock and his colleague Robert Bowl, denying the generally accepted idea of \u200b\u200bthe Great Pyramid as the tomb of Cheops, because in no pyramid, despite the empty sarcophagi, dead bodies were found. (I will especially tell you about the Menkauru pyramid. When the British Colonel Howard Wens entered the funeral chamber of this pyramid in 1837, he found there a basalt sarcophagus, a wooden coffin lid in the form of a human figure and bone. The sarcophagus sank along with the ship transporting it to England, and the dating of the lid of the tomb and bones carried them to the era of early Christianity.) When in the 9th century AD e. the expedition penetrated the pyramid of Cheops and with great difficulty explored the royal crypt, the large stone sarcophagus, as it turned out, was empty, but there were no signs of a previous ruin. The truth, according to Hancock and Bovel, lies in astronomical data.

At a distance of about 160 meters from the Cheops pyramid rises Chefren's pyramid, whose height is 136.6 meters, and the length of the sides is 210.5 meters. However, the Chefren pyramid visually seems higher than the Cheops pyramid - the effect is achieved due to the fact that its base is at a higher mark. Mykirin's pyramid, which is even smaller, is located 200 meters from the Chefren pyramid. Its height is 62 meters, and the length of the sides is 108 meters. Three pyramids - part of the complex, which, in addition, consists of a sphinx, several temples, small pyramids, tombs of priests and officials.

But back to astronomy. Due to the so-called procession (rocking of the earth's axis under the gravitational influence of the sun and moon), the constellations change their position in the sky with a period of 25920 years. With the help of a computer, it was possible to reconstruct the starry sky above The great pyramid in 2500 BC. It turned out that in those days one of the southern corridors of the Pyramid was precisely aimed at the star Sirius, identified by the Egyptians with the Goddess Isis. Another southern corridor pointed to the lower of the three stars that make up the Belt of Orion, a constellation considered the abode of God Osiris, who brought civilization to the Nile Valley.

These coincidences, according to Hancock and Bauval, are not accidental. Moreover, the third-largest pyramid (Menkaur) is knocked out of a straight line connecting the first (Cheops) and second (Chefren) pyramids. Looking at Orion’s Belt, Robert Bovel noticed a completely similar arrangement of three stars! Thus, the scientist concludes, apparently the three largest pyramids in Giza symbolize the belt of Orion on earth! However, the angle of inclination of the belt now does not coincide exactly with the axis of the three pyramids. The use of a computer, which calculated the time of the exact coincidence of the Orion Belt and the three largest Egyptian pyramids, showed that this moment refers to the time 10642 - 10546 BC. BC, that is, for half the precession period to the present day, in 25920 years, as in the ancients or 25729 years according to modern data, the year BC (See details) According to Boval and Hancock, although all three pyramids were completed around 2500 BC, the plan of the complex at Giza was drawn up 8000 years earlier! It was passed from generation to generation until the time when it was possible to combine the inner corridors with the direction to the desired stars!

In their book "Keepers of Creation", Bovel and Hancock emphasize that, in their opinion, the creators of the pyramid complex in Giza and the famous Sphinx had in mind to build some kind of chronological "lighthouses" that would encourage many future generations to look for the true meaning of their project. The choice of the position of the monuments using the "language of the stars" should be understood by any culture familiar with astronomy. The pyramid complex in Giza probably stores rooms containing the most important messages of ancient architects, facing the future. Bovel and Hancock are convinced that humanity is on the threshold of the Great Discoveries in the pyramids.

Another opinion is expressed in his article by Yevgeny Menshov. Claiming that the Pyramids remind us of the planets of the solar system and the catastrophe that occurred on September 22, 10532 BC

Where are the Great Messages stored?

Everyone heard about the treasures of the pyramids and their robbers. The Arab Ale Ale Manoun found the way to the Great Pyramid of Cheops in 820. (Caliph Al-Ma'amun) He began to dismantle in the center of the North Wall, where, according to legend, the entrance was located.

To do this, he poured stones with vinegar, heated them with bonfires, and then used rams. Hearing the sound sliding to the left of their tunnel, stones, treasure hunters dug to the source of sound, which led them to the passage leading down (at an angle of 26.30). At the lower end of the inclined passage was what they began to call the bottomless pit (P), or a large underground chamber located at 180m. below the top of the pyramid. The falling stones, which the Arabs heard, rolled down into it. If not for this accident, the entrance would never have been found

At present, the main entrance to the Pyramid is the entrance punched by the Arabs. The real entrance is located seventeen meters above the ground and seven meters east of the main north-south axis. Having a section of 1m x 1.22m, it is clamped by floor blocks of 2.6m thickness and 3.6m width and a floor slab 0.76m thick and 10m long.

From the inclined tunnel (D), at the same angle, there is an upward tunnel (A) connected to the Grand Gallery (G), whose length is 46.6 meters, ending with the entrance to the room from polished granite 5.2x10.4 meters and 5.8 meters tall known as the Royal Crypt (K). It is closed by five 70-ton slabs supporting the upper part of the pyramid, located at a height of 42.7 meters above the ground, and inside it is an empty granite box without decorations.

The stone cork, placed at the entrance to the ascending tunnel, is made of rare red granite, identical to the granite of Mount Horeb, where, according to tradition, Moses received 10 commandments. To circumvent it, the Arabs carved softer limestone around her.

However, there was another secret passage. A horizontal passage branches off from the ascending tunnel, leading to a completely empty room called the Queen's Chamber (Q), and next to it is the Coarse Mine (W) connecting the Great Gallery with the descending tunnel, about 60 meters from the stone cork.

Oddly enough, but the downward corridor was well known in antiquity. The Greco-Roman geographer Strabo left a clear description of the large underground chamber (P) into which this corridor enters (180 meters below the top of the pyramid). In this chamber, underground inscriptions were discovered - autographs from the Roman occupation, indicating regular visits in those years. However, thanks to the secret door leading to the shaft (W) in the downward tunnel, this passage was forgotten.

The great seven wonders of the world - the hanging gardens of Babylon, the Lighthouse of Alexandria, the statue of Zeus, the colossus of Rhodes, etc. Everyone knows about them. But only one “miracle” of these seven has survived from our days. It's mysterious pyramids of Egyptwhich are over 4,500 years old.

Location and structural features of the Egyptian pyramids:

Pyramids stand on the territory of an ancient cemetery in Giza, which is on the opposite bank from the (modern capital).

Scientists note that during the whole existence of the Ancient Egyptian kingdom more than 80 pyramids were built, but only a small part reached us. There are three surviving pyramids in total - these are the pyramids of Cheops, Chefren and Mikerin (they also have the Egyptian names Khufu, Khafra and Menkaur). Only the first of this list formally refers to the legendary seven. However, they are all mysterious and majestic.

The look of these structures is impressive. They clearly stand out against the blue sky and dark yellow sand. You notice them from afar, before you get close to them. Any giant pyramids cause holy awe. They seem to be something cosmic, it is hard to believe that people had any relation to their construction.

The main pyramid is the pyramid of Cheops (Khufu). Each side of the base has a length of 233 m. The height of the pyramid is 147 m. The area of \u200b\u200bthe pyramid is more than 50 thousand square meters. Its internal premises occupy a very small volume - not more than 4% of the total area.

Until the mid-19th century, the Cheops pyramid was considered the largest building on our planet. According to Napoleon’s calculation, stone blocks from the three pyramids of Giza would be enough to encircle the whole wall three meters high and 30 centimeters thick.

All sides are almost symmetrical - such accuracy is surprising. The pyramid consists of 2,500,000 huge blocks, each of which weighs at least two tons, the heaviest block weighs 15 tons. The famous architect of this pyramid is the Egyptian Hemuin.

A lot of misunderstandings arise due to the layout of the inner corridors and the so-called “main royal chamber” with the empty sarcophagus of the Cheops pyramid. As you know, from this room a narrow passage leads outward at an angle - the ventilation duct, and above the chamber there are several empty unloading rooms, constructed in order to reduce the huge stone mass. One of the mysteries, for example, is the location of the main room - it is not located on the central axis, as in all tombs, but tilted to the side.

Hafra Pyramid (Chefren) is almost not inferior to the pyramid of Cheops. It is slightly smaller - 215 m long and 143 wide, but because it is located on steeper slopes, it seems larger. Chefren is buried in it - this is the son of Cheops.

Not far from this pyramid is the legendary Great Sphinx, which is also part of the burial complex. The size of the figure is rather big: its height is 20, and its length is 57 meters. A figure carved from a solid rock depicts a lying lion with a human head.

Hufuso Pyramid It has come down to our times in good condition compared to other pyramids: it is the only one that has retained the lime cladding at its top.

Pyramid of Menkaur (Mycerin) is the smallest of the legendary pyramids. It is almost 10 times smaller than the Cheops pyramid. Its height is only 66.4 meters. The pyramid was intended for the grandson of Cheops.

History of the Egyptian Pyramids:

The time of the construction of the Egyptian pyramids dates back to the beginning of the Ancient Kingdom, and this is approximately 2800 - 2250 BC. e.

Almost 5 thousand years ago (28th century BC), the founder of the III dynasty, Pharaoh Joser, barely stepping on the throne, ordered the construction of his tomb to begin. The construction was entrusted to the architect Imhoten. The innovation that the architect applied in the construction of the tomb for Joser was that he erected it in the form of six benches, set on top of each other. Moreover, each subsequent one was smaller than the previous one. Imhoten created the first step pyramid. Its height was 60 m, length - 120 m, width - 109 m. In contrast to the previous tombs, the Djoser pyramid was built not of wood and brick, but of large limestone blocks. This pyramid is considered the progenitor of the great Pyramids.

The first of the great pyramids is the Pyramid of Cheops. It is absolutely impossible to imagine that it was erected, according to manuscripts that have reached us, in just 20 years. Even today, with all the modern technology, it’s hard to build such a huge building, not to mention the fact that the pyramid was erected 4,500 years ago, when they did not even guess about any mechanisms. Sometimes it is suggested that the people living in the Bronze Age could not build the pyramids, and that ... aliens took part in the creation of these colossal structures. But, according to the official scientific version, the construction of the pyramid is the work of ordinary people. The main builders were nearly 100,000 slaves.

Millions of blocks were literally hollowed out of the rocks with the help of primitive red copper drills, which were very dull from such hard work. Pulling wooden boards under the future stove, they were constantly watered with water. The tree swelled and tore the stone from the rock. Then, the resulting block was carefully polished, giving it the necessary shape. One has only to marvel at the impeccable result, because, in fact, the work was carried out by completely primitive tools. Having no measuring instruments, in the end we got a block that was ideal in its proportions and shape. In the vicinity of Aswan, and now there are ruins of ancient quarries, in the territory of which many finished blocks were found. As it turned out, this is a marriage that was not used when laying the pyramids.

Treated blocks on boats were transported to the other side of the Nile. Then they were taken along a specially laid road, the construction of which took 10 years and which, according to Herodotus, is only slightly simpler than the construction of the pyramids. The pyramid was erected on an indigenous limestone massif, cleared of sand and gravel. Workers dragged them to a place using ramps, blocks and levers, and then drove them together without any solution. The stones of the pyramid are so tightly “fitted” that it is impossible to stick even a knife blade between them. To raise the blocks, the Egyptians built an inclined embankment of brick and stone with an elevation angle of about 15. When the main structure was completed, it resembled a series of steps. As the pyramid was built, the embankment was lengthened. Perhaps they used wooden sledges, on which blocks were dragged by hundreds of slaves upstairs. Traces of these wagons were found in some places.

When the construction was basically completed, the inclined embankment was leveled, and the surface of the pyramid was covered with facing blocks.

Construction ended in 2580 BC. e. Initially, the height of the pyramid was 150 meters, but over time, due to destruction and advancing sands, it became smaller - by 10 meters today.

There is no doubt that this pyramid was built as a tomb for the pharaoh Cheops. In ancient Egypt, it was customary to build structures for burial long before the death of the one to whom it was intended. The Egyptians believed in the afterlife and carefully prepared for it. They believed that in the event of death of a person, his body should be preserved so that the spirit could continue to live after death. They removed the internal organs, filled the body with salts and wrapped it with linen sheets. So the body turned into a mummy. Together with the pharaohs, they buried jewelry that could, according to the ancients, be useful to him in another world. In addition, a large number of servants who would serve the master even after death were often buried with the ruler. The pyramids served the pharaohs, according to their religious beliefs, the staircase through which souls ascended to heaven.

After the construction of the Cheops pyramid, the cocking of the Khafra pyramid began. Huge money was invested in these buildings. The third pyramid was also supposed to be no less magnificent. But Menkaur could not afford the construction of a large pyramid. The country was ravaged by the construction of the pyramids of Khufu and Hafra. Famine began. The population, exhausted by overwork, grumbled. But, despite the smaller size, the pyramid of Menkaur still looks unusually beautiful.

Secrets of the Egyptian pyramids:

There are absolutely fantastic assumptions about the pyramids. For example, that they are not tombs at all, but something like observatories. Astronomer Richard Proctor claims that the descending corridor could be used to observe the movement of some stars, and the Great Gallery, open at the top, was used to map the sky. But still, the official version is that the pyramids were built, first of all, like tombs.

Since the pharaohs were buried along with various valuable things, it is undoubted that in them you can find jewelry. The search for treasures in the tomb of Cheops does not stop today. There is still a lot of unknown. That is why the ancient pyramids are a favorite place for treasure seekers. For a long time, theft of the pyramids was considered the main problem. It seems that this problem existed in the Ancient Kingdom, so the tombs were designed according to the principle of mazes, with secret rooms and doors, baits and traps.

According to the official version, they first entered the pyramid in 820 AD: the Arab caliph Abdullah Al Manum decided to find the treasures of Khufu. Immediately, treasure seekers were faced with the fact that it was completely impossible to find the entrance to the tomb. After a long search, we decided to dig under the pyramid. They soon found themselves in a passage that led down. These digging continued for several months. People were simply in despair - as soon as they entered some corridor, it immediately ended in a blank wall.

The first room they managed to find was the room now known as the "royal room." From it they could find an exit into space at the junction of the two corridors and come to the “large gallery”, which, in turn, led to the “king’s room” - about 11 meters long and 5 wide. Here they found only an empty sarcophagus without a lid. There was nothing else in the room.

Several years of work yielded nothing - no treasure was found. Most likely, the tomb was looted long before the arrival of Abdullah Al Manum, but the workers said that it was simply impossible, since all the plates inside the pyramid were intact, and it was not possible to go through them. True, in 1638, John Graves discovered a narrow passage in the Great Gallery, which was littered with debris. It is possible that through this move all the treasures were taken out. But many scientists doubt this, since the passage is very small and a thin person can hardly fit into it.

What happened to the Khufu mummy and its treasure2 No one knows. A variety of studies have not found any other rooms or aisles. However, many still believe that the main rooms and the jewels hidden there have not yet been found.

Egypt's oldest pyramid built almost 5,000 years ago,but recently, research has begun on a structure similar to it, hidden under layers of earth and gravel, which is perhaps four times older.

If true, this fact can make history rewrite and shed light on an unknown, but advanced for its time and powerful ancient civilization.

Megalith Gunung Padang It was discovered in 1914 and is the largest in Indonesia. It is located at an altitude of 885 meters above sea level among volcanoes, banana palms and tea plantations 120 kilometers south of Jakarta.

Dr. Hilman, chief geologist at the Indonesian Center for Geotechnical Research, believes that the pyramid found will be evidence of the existence of an ancient developed civilization on the island of Java and that most of the steps of the pyramid were built by several generations of people. Some stones were interconnected by an unknown ancient glue, and radiocarbon analysis showed that it was made in about 7000 BC.

The structure is covered with massive rectangular stones of volcanic origin and, possibly, hides walls and rooms, steps and terraces, which indicates a complex development.

Based on studies using ground penetrating radar, it was concluded that the hill above the structure is 100 meters thick and consists of several layers. Until now, artificial structures have been discovered at a maximum depth of 15 meters.

Experts date these layers below the surface of the earth three to four meters, 6500 m and 12 500 years.

However, Dr. Hilman's findings are disputed, and 34 Indonesian archaeologists and geologists filed a petition criticizing the methods and motives of his project. They say that the excavation threatens the safety of the megalith.

Volcanologist Sutikno Bronto believes that the discovered structure is not a pyramid, but the crater of an old volcano, and the stones took their shape as a result of natural erosion, and not under the influence of humans. Another anonymous expert is skeptical about the existence of a developed ancient civilization, considering that the technical equipment of the people of that time was insufficient to build a pyramid, because the tools found in a cave nearby, dating back to 7000 BC, were very primitive.

The oldest pyramids in the world

If the building in West Java really has an age of 20,000 years, then it will be the oldest on Earth. In 1996, archaeologists discovered pyramids on the Atlantic coast of the southern part of Brazil, built around 3000 BC, which makes them several hundred years older than the most ancient pyramids of Egypt.

Brazilian pyramids are made of shells and were probably built in several stages over decades or even centuries, according to The Independent.

Djoser Pyramid

The oldest of the famous pyramids of Egypt - Joser's step pyramid, which was built around 2700 BC. e. and consists of six steps. An architect named Imhotep built it for the burial of Pharaoh Joser. The ancient structure was damaged in 1992 by an earthquake that made a large hole in its domed roof, but restoration is in full swing.

Dissonant surnames that characterize a person from a negative or ridiculous side, such as Durakov, Zlobin, Bezobrazov, Nezhdanov, Nevzorov, etc., are surnames-charms. It was customary to give such names in Russia to children in order to deceive evil spirits. It was also assumed that the surname would protect against the “evil eye” and would have the opposite effect: Bezobrazov would grow handsome, Fools grow smart, etc.

Mysterious Pyramids Of egypt

The Egyptian pyramid of Djoser, better known as the step pyramid, is located in Saqqara, 30 km from Cairo. A visit to the pyramid is part of the Dashur-Sakkar tour. To visit this pyramid is at least out of curiosity, because this is the very first pyramid built in honor of the ruler of Djoser. The peculiarity of the pyramid is that it is made in a stepped form. Six steps - the path by which the pharaoh goes into the underworld, as historians believe. Inside the pyramid there are 11 burial chambers for the pharaoh and his family members. In the process of archaeological excavations of Joser himself was not found, only the mummies of his relatives. This is due to the fact that by the time the excavation began, the tomb was already plundered.

An excursion to Saqqara with a visit to the Djoser Pyramid will cost about $ 80 per person.

Mycerin Pyramid

The pyramid is located on the Giza plateau next to other famous pyramids - Cheops and Chefren. Compared to them, the Pyramid of Mycerin is considered the smallest and youngest pyramid of the famous triad. The peculiarity of this pyramid is in its color - until the middle it was made of red granite, and higher of white limestone. But in the 16th century, the lining was destroyed by the Mameluke warriors. The fact that the Mycerin pyramid is relatively small in size, scientists explain by the fact that the Egyptians stopped making grand tombs. But despite this, the pyramid does not cease to amaze scientists and travelers. For example, the largest block of stone weighs about - 200 tons! What technical means helped the ancient Egyptians so much? An excursion to the pyramid is included in the Cairo travel program, its cost is approximately $ 60 per person.

The Pyramid of Cheops

There is hardly a man. who would not know the main attraction of Egypt - the pyramid of Cheops. The height of this one of the Seven Wonders of the World today is 140 meters, and an area of \u200b\u200babout 5 hectares. The pyramid consists of 2.5 million stone blocks. The construction of the pyramid took 20 years. Several thousand years have passed since the construction of the Cheops pyramid, but the Egyptians still greatly honor the pyramid, and every year in August they celebrate the day its construction began. Despite the fact that the research and excavation of the pyramid, it still retains many secrets. For example, secret doors were discovered in the burial room of Pharaoh’s wife, which, according to scientists, symbolize the path to the afterlife. But archaeologists could not open the last door. The cost of an excursion to the Giza plateau with a visit to the pyramids is 50-60 dollars. For children, the ticket will cost half the price.

Chefren's Pyramid

Although the Chefren pyramid is 4 meters smaller than the Cheops pyramid, but visually it seems higher. The secret is that the pyramid stands on a ten-meter plateau and has been very well preserved to this day. The pyramid has two entrances - one at a height of 15 m, and the other on the same side at the base level. Inside the Chefren’s pyramid, it’s rather modest - two rooms and a couple of corridors, but the real sarcophagus of the pharaoh is stored here. The tomb is made at the highest level and does not leave indifferent any of the tourists. The tomb itself is empty.

Archaeologists found a grand find in a pyramid in the 19th century - a sculpture of a pharaoh from a mountain diorite.

The cost of an excursion to the Chefren pyramid is about $ 60.

Dashur

This place is not as popular as the Giza plateau with its pyramids. Dashur is famous for its pyramids, which were built during the reign of Pharaoh Snofu. These structures are considered the first tombs in history, built according to new types of structures.

The southern pyramid, which is better known as Broken, got its name due to the irregular shape. During its construction, the angles of the faces were changed for an unknown reason. Perhaps this was a mistake, but scientists explain it as a construction move with concern for the strength and durability of the pyramid. The main difference between the Broken Pyramid is. that it has two entrances - the "traditional" northern and almost non-southern.

Another attraction of Dashur is the Northern Pyramid, better known as Red. The name of the pyramid was due to its facing red color. This is the first tomb of the correct pyramidal shape. The pyramid is very dark, so you should take a flashlight with you. In the lowest burial chamber you can observe a high stepped ceiling, the same as in the gallery of the Cheops pyramid.

The cost of an excursion to Cairo, which includes a trip to Dashur, will cost an average of $ 85.
