Spain is the best choice for those who love a relaxing family beach holiday, you can choose any coastal region, but domestic tourists prefer the Golden Coast - the beaches of the Costa Dorada.

The hospitable coast of the Costa Dorada

The Costa Daurada is located in the north-east of the country on the coast of the Balearic Sea (it is part of the Mediterranean Sea). This is the province of Tarragona (part of the autonomous community of Catalonia). Its length is more than 200 km.

Costa Dorada is not only magnificent coniferous forests and wide sea open spaces, but also noisy megalopolises with a mass of various top tourist attractions.

The climate of the Costa Dorada is mild and it is comfortable to relax in any season. Summer is warm, there is practically no rain. From May to September, the air temperature is in the region + 27-32 ° С, and water - in the region + 23-25 \u200b\u200b° С. There are practically no winds on the Costa Dorada. The coast is reliably protected from the west and north by the Catalan mountains and the Pyrenees.

In winter it is a little colder. Only 12-15 ° C heat. But even at this time tourists come here. They rush to cities that are more reminiscent of open-air museums, admire the architectural monuments of the medieval and Roman period.

The main beaches of Benidorm are Levante and Poniente (Dawn and Sunset, respectively). They are separated by port, as well as Cape Castillo. There are also several small beaches, such as Mal Pas. There are also caves in this city, one of them is called “TiXimo”. If you move south from the province, you can see a very famous beach - Pilar de la Horadada, this is a favorite place for all those who are engaged in scuba diving, since the flora and fauna here is really diverse and beautiful.

Costa Blanca coast in Spain. Direct flight from Moscow to Alicante by S7.

We visited the Costa Blanca to test two villas on the coast (I wrote a separate article about this) and see the beaches of this region of Spain.

In May of this year, we got a few, essentially business, trips before the start of the summer holiday season: to, to Greece to, and now to Spain.

I confess that I promised my wife not to repeat this kind of thing the next year and ride in April-May - the sea is still cold in spring in southern Europe.

This time I needed material for writing reviews about three popular destinations of Russian package tourism.

Flights to Alicante were not expensive (), but 5 hours in economy were slightly exhausting: I think that in Europe in economy class you can travel no more than 3.5 hours.

Having received a car booked at the Alicante airport (about renting a car in Alicante), we quickly got to the first Villa Alemania villa in a place Altea Hills.

And having got acquainted with the nearest (5 minutes by car) supermarket, we congratulated each other on arrival at the place cooked on charcoal meat and bought wine there.

Beaches of Benidorm

The next day was devoted to exploring the beaches south of us: from the resort Benidorm before Altea

Moving a little away from the storyline, I want to talk about the criteria by which the beaches in Europe are assigned the Blue Flag (“Blue Flag”)

It turns out that the main criterion for assigning this distinctive and largely exaggerated symbol of the “goodness” of the beach is:
- access to the beach in a wheelchair
- the presence on the beaches of lifeguards and toilets

For me personally, the “goodness” of the beach is not toilets or lifeguards, but:
- clear water
- comfortable and deep entry into the water
- lack of waves on the beach
- lack of mass of lying bodies within a radius of a dozen meters from me
- the presence on the beach of trees and some infrastructure where you can eat.

Therefore, my assessment of the beaches of the Costa Blanca most likely does not coincide with the assessment of the FEE (Foundation for Environmental Education).

I will continue.
Having quickly reached Benidorm, we parked at the bus stop of the promenade to take the first photos.

The picture that struck me struck me so that I expressed foul language, which in translation into censorship sounds like this: This is hell!

And this guys is not a season.
The season will begin here from the end of June.
What will happen on this beach during the season? - I'm afraid to imagine…

After this discovery of Benidorm, slightly shocked by what we saw, we moved north: the place is called Albirbeach Racó de l´albir.
It is much quieter and more spacious.

There is no such thing as in Benidorm, a heap of high-rise buildings and construction sites a la “New Moscow”.
The embankment is beautiful and sparsely populated.
Of the vacationers, pensioners prevail of course, but there are young people too.

Here we had lunch and I noted that Altea beach is no different from the previous Racó de l´albir - a beach within a city, a city within a beach.

The next day we again went south - this time further beyond Alicante, towards the resort Torrevieja.

Beaches of La Marina and Santa Pola

But not in Torrevieja itself (this is a branch of the package Benidorm), and not reaching it: they visited resort towns, cities La marina (La Marina) and Santa paula (Santa Pola).
For example, La Marina Beach:

Along the beach there are one-story buildings, the purpose of which I did not understand.
Looks like warehouses or boathouses, but too small for that.
As housing - too shabby.

The appearance of a dusty coastal street with an unpaved road reminded me of Bolivia's ebony, near the Uyuni solonchak.

I did not notice any infrastructure for relaxing in the villa (restaurants, supermarkets, domestic services) in this place.

Resort Santa paula deserted: cloned apartment complexes, closed windows and silence.
Like in a cemetery.

There are no locals here - all the same type of housing was built for rental.
Season on the coast begins with school holidays, which in the west begin at the end of June.

How many bodies will there be on the beach?
As usual on the coast in Spain: there is a lot of housing, and there are few restaurants and shops.

To be more precise, there are 4 restaurants on the embankment, and there is no supermarket at all, as well as fruit and seafood markets, massages, beauty parlors ...
Around one house with apartments for rent.

Beach Playa de guardamar in the picture below:

Three days passed and we said goodbye to the first villa (which we liked), moved north - to Denia ( Denia).

Review of the second villa in Denia and the beaches of Calp, Cala de la Fossa, Playa de L’Andrago, Xabia I posted on the forum:

Two types of villas in Spain

It is very good that when booking villas on the Costa Blanca, we came across precisely these two villas.

Very contrasting and juicy - so the article itself was born:.
There is nothing to add.

Conclusion

Continental Spain is not on my list of countries with good beaches.
The only place where the beaches are more or less liked is the islands Sies (Cies): on the Atlantic coast of Galicia (north, closer to Portugal): clear sea, almost no waves, white sand ... but a lot of tourists.

Costa Blanca did not like.
If compared with Costa Dorada (Barcelona - Salou), the latter is much better on the beaches and places that you can visit if you are tired of crowds on the beaches. But still - Spain for me is not a country of beach holidays.

It’s just that there is so much housing built in the days of cheap money and the Spanish “resort miracle” that to fill it you need to support the myth that in Spain there are a lot of good beaches and all of them have blue flags.

If you have been to the islands of Greece before (I do not mean the package islands like Rhodes or Kos, but the normal ones: Lefkada, Corfu, Kefalonia), then you will agree with me: the best beaches and the sea are in.
