Many tourists who travel to the island for the first time are faced with the difficult choice of which resort to prefer.

People don't know where to start, how to compare resorts and choose the best one for themselves.

In this article, we want to help beginners figure out which resort on the island is the best for them, because whether it will succeed as a whole depends on the correctly chosen vacation spot.

First of all, Cyprus is associated with beach holidays, so let's start with the beaches.

About the beaches of Cyprus

Ayia Napa and Protarasthey are rightfully considered ideal for a beach holiday. It is here that azure water and golden fine sand. There are long beaches:

There are bays in which the water warms up faster at the beginning of the season (you can swim comfortably in May) and there are no waves.

It is famous for its shallow waters. The beach has grayish volcanic sand and small pebbles. It is important where the hotel will be located, in the tourist area or in the city itself.

On the central beach, you will have to put up with passing cars and planes coming to land at Larnaca airport.

IN Limassol beaches are somewhat reminiscent of Larnaca. Gray sand. But, it is not so long to go to the depth, therefore, slightly less preferable for children.

Pebble beaches.

The most comfortable is Coral bay, loose sand, but the seabed, again, is pebbly.

In some places in Paphos, it is completely forbidden to swim, dangerous currents.

Tourist villages are lively from mid-April to mid-November, and in the winter, they are almost empty, hibernating. There are no large supermarkets and fashion stores in Ayia Napa and Protaras, as it is not profitable for them to work 7 months a year.

The tourist village is very intelligently built. All nightlife is located in the interior of Ayia Napa, and beach hotels are on the coast. Tourists staying in these hotels for the entire vacation, if desired, may not feel the closeness of nightlife.

Which resort on the island is best for sightseeing?

Tourists may be faced with the categorical opinion that for those who are going to go on excursions, only Limassol is suitable. But this is not the case! Cyprus - small island... Its length from east to west is 240 km, from south to north - about 100 km. And in the presence of magnificent and unloaded highways, the road from the tourist village of Protaras (eastern point of the island) to the city of Paphos (western point) is only about 190 km. will take 1 hour and 40 minutes in a comfortable car. Perhaps the most adequate assessment of tourist Cyprus will sound like this: "strong Mediterranean goodness." That is, this is quite a typical direction of beach recreation, without any bright or unique "chips", but without major drawbacks (unless, of course, we consider high prices to be such). The island has a mild climate, the service in hotels is quite adequate to their level, and the beaches are very clean, with many Blue Flags - so tours to Cyprus are more than deservedly popular among travelers.

Diving in Cyprus

Diving in Cyprus is not as spectacular as the Red Sea or the Caribbean, but it also offers good opportunities for beginners and experienced divers. The flora and fauna of the Mediterranean Sea is not very diverse, but there are many sunken ships, caves and other interesting objects in it. The best places diving sites are located around Paphos, Limassol, Larnaca and Ayia Napa.

Larnaca is home to one of the most interesting diving sites in the world - the sunken Swedish ferry Zenobia, which crashed in 1980. None of the crew members were injured, only the ferry itself and the trucks, which lie on the seabed at a depth of about 40 m. a depth of 33 m in the same area rests the cruiser HMS Cricket from the Second World War, which sank in 1947. A little deeper - 50 m - there is a rock in the form of a mushroom Mushrooms Rock, and 10 m deep - Octopus Reef, where octopuses.

The Swedish ferry "Zenobia" sunk in the waters near Larnaca is one of the ten most interesting diving sites in the world.

In Paphos, divers will be interested to see the Greek ship Achilleas, which was wrecked in 1975 under unexplained circumstances (12 m deep), and a unique natural monument that looks like an amphitheater (12 m). And only 5-10 m away in these waters you can observe the Amphorae Reef - amphorae and other ancient pottery sunk together with the Greek galleys.

There are also many ships in the waters near Limassol at different depths, from 7 to 23 m. There are caves similar to ancient tombs where you can watch cute fish living there (for example, Tombs caves at a depth of 12 m).

Ayia Napa has a very picturesque canyon (depth 25 m) with corals, caves and the remains of ancient Phoenician wooden ships.

Dive centers are located throughout the island. Beginners will first be offered dives in the pool, and then released into the open water. Almost every large dive center has Russian-speaking instructors, so there will be no problems with communication.

Novice divers undergo compulsory training, which includes instruction, a swimming pool and diving in open water at a depth of no more than 10 m. The cost of one dive is from 50 EUR. The Open Water Diving program involves a course of training lasting 4-5 days, from 5 dives in open water, and as a result, an international diving certificate is issued. Cost - from 250 EUR.

What to bring

Popular souvenirs: a figurine of Aphrodite, models of ships and dolls in national costumes. Fans of culinary delights can bring from Cyprus goat cheese "halloumi" (convenient for transportation), Cypriot sweets: Turkish delight, halva, "suzukos" - almond grains in grape molasses, etc.

From October to April, shops are open from 8:00 to 18:00 (break from 13:00 to 15:00), and on Wednesdays and Saturdays they close after lunch. Shops are usually closed on Sundays.

Cyprus cuisine and restaurants

The island has mainly Greek cuisine, which differs from its mainland variant in that it has more seafood. The Cypriot cuisine is based on meat, fish and vegetable dishes, and the main “culinary attraction” of the island is “meze”: a complex lunch, which includes 20-30 dishes. Serving meze starts with appetizers, salads and vegetables and ends with meat and fish dishes, each tavern having its own menu. Another popular Cypriot dish is “souvlaki” - shish kebab wrapped in a flat cake. It is traditionally served without sauce so as not to overpower the taste of the meat. Also noteworthy are "moussaka" - minced meat baked with vegetables and a sauce of sour cream and beaten eggs, and "kupelka" - stuffed cabbage rolls in grape leaves.

You should definitely try the Cypriot feta and halloumi cheeses, as well as green walnuts in syrup. We should not forget about Cypriot wines, spirits and liqueurs, which are abundant on the island. The most famous wine is Commandaria. This is a variety of Cahors and is best purchased at the Kykkos Monastery in Troodos. For beer lovers, there are two local brands of foamy drink, Keo and Carlsberg.

Those who like stronger will appreciate the grape moonshine "Zivania", the alcohol content of which can reach 80 °. True, you can only bring back memories of its tasting: the export of drinks with a strength above 50 ° from Cyprus is prohibited.

You can have an inexpensive snack in the eateries or “kebabs”, which are abundant on the island. Lunch will cost an average of 5-8 EUR excluding alcohol. The most popular places are traditional Cypriot taverns. These are small family restaurants, which are inherited from father to son, and usually the owner and his relatives work there. The menu is rarely extensive, but all the traditional local cuisine is usually there. The portions are large, you can safely order one for two, also in taverns they are often treated to dessert or liqueur. Lunch in such a restaurant will cost 12-20 EUR with wine, dinner can be more expensive.

In hotels and restaurants, a 10% service charge is usually included in the bill. Therefore, tips in Cyprus are optional, but a small change is always accepted with gratitude.

There are also classic restaurants on the island, and the most interesting of them are located at the wineries. They offer Cypriot cuisine and local wine. The average bill will be higher than in taverns: from 25 EUR per person.

Halloumi is a divinely delicious Cypriot goat cheese that everyone should try.

Entertainment and attractions

Cyprus is a relatively small island, but it surprisingly accommodates a huge number of monuments of nature, culture, history and art different eras... Here are the ruins of Stone Age settlements, temples from the times of Ancient Greece, Roman theaters, ancient Byzantine monasteries, venetian fortresses and gothic cathedrals. And due to the compactness of the island, many of these sights can be easily visited in one trip.

It is worth visiting the capital of Cyprus, Nicosia, where all the main attractions are collected in the old quarter of the city. These are the Byzantine Church of Chrysalinotissa and the Church of Tripiotis with the famous iconostasis, the Archbishop's Palace, the Cathedral of St. John, the Famagusta Gate and the Venetian Wall.

On the Akamas peninsula, the ruins of the ancient cities of Morion and Avagos, the monastery of Agios Georgios, have been preserved, and the green and big-headed turtles have chosen the territory located south of the Lara Beach Bay. It is also worth visiting the Baths of Aphrodite, which is not far from the Latchi bay. Amathus is one of the oldest cities in Cyprus, the ruins of which are located on the seashore 5 km east of Limassol. Modern archaeologists have found here a basilica of the early Christian era, the sanctuary of Aphrodite, the ruins of baths and a system of water conduits - of course, their time, as they say, did not spare them, but even in this form they make an impression.

No less ancient Kourion was one of the largest city-states of the island. Roman baths and rich houses, the sanctuary of Apollo of Hilates, the ancient theater and numerous mosaics have been preserved there to this day. Troodos Mountains - nature reserve and ski resort... There are also numerous churches and monasteries, some of which are included in the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List and are protected by the state.

Cruises from Cyprus

Mini-cruises from Cyprus are an opportunity to travel to Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Greece, or Lebanon while on the island. For example, a two-day cruise to Egypt includes a full-day trip to Cairo (with a visit to Cairo national Museum) and an excursion to the pyramids and the papyrus factory on the second day.

During a cruise to Jerusalem and Bethlehem, tourists will see the Church of the Nativity and the Grotto, built over the birthplace of Jesus Christ. After lunch at local restaurant the tour will continue in the Holy City of Jerusalem with a visit to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, Calvary and the Western Wall.

The cost of a two-day cruise starts from 300 EUR per person, this amount usually includes transfers from the hotel to the port of Limassol and back, necessary visas (not always), excursions with a Russian-speaking guide, full board, the entire entertainment program on board the ships and accommodation in the cabin of the chosen categories.

  1. Swim in the bay of Petra tou Romiou, where, according to legend, the sea goddess Aphrodite came out of the foam, and gain eternal youth and beauty.
  2. Go to a small winery to taste Commandaria and other wines.
  3. Travel back to the Middle Ages in Kyrenia and visit the local Shipwreck Museum.
  4. Dine in an authentic Cypriot tavern and have a glass of liqueur with the host.
  5. Buy hand-embroidered tablecloth in Lefkara village.
  6. Dance all night until dawn at discos in Ayia Napa.
  7. Climb into the tower of the jealous Moor in Famagusta, where the supposed prototype of Othello, the governor of Cyprus Christopher Moro, lived in the 12th century.
  8. Watch flamingos on the Aliki Salt Lake near Larnaca.
  9. Ride a donkey named Hitler or Schumacher at the Dipotamos donkey farm in Ayia Napa.
  10. Look from afar at the ghost town of Varosh in Famagusta (you can go inside, but it's very expensive - a fine of 500 EUR).

Holidays and events

A separate reason for traveling to Cyprus is endless holidays and festivals. In April, the country celebrates the National Day of Cyprus. In May-June, the coastal cities celebrate the "cataclysm" - the holiday of water and the flood, and in Limassol the Folk Dance Festival is held. In July-August, the Festival of Ancient Greek Drama takes place: performances are given in the ancient amphitheater of Kourion, in the Odeon of Paphos, Fort Larnaca and on the Monastery Square in Ayia Napa. The beginning of September dawns on the popular Limassol Wine Festival, dedicated to the god of winemaking Dionysus with its invigorating breath.

I am often asked which city to choose for a vacation in Cyprus? I'll tell you the basics of choosing.

Larnaca - the airport where most flights arrive often offers the most cheap vacation, good small beaches right within the city limits, but in itself is practically of no interest - there are a minimum of attractions. But there are many shops, again a minute walk from the beach, a lot of restaurants and bars. Nightlife in the city is pleasant and rich. The city is convenient for families with small children (about 500 meters from the coast it will be shallow - even a child up to the waist, and you - up to the knee), for shopping, for evening gatherings in bars, as well as the proximity of the airport (7 km from the center, 12 euros for Taxi). Larnaca is also convenient for traveling around the island as it is geographically central.

Pathos - a special place. And the proximity of the second aeroport, and the mass of attractions, both man-made and natural, a zoo, a water park - all this makes the city universal and, probably, the most interesting for inquisitive tourists, aimed at leisure... You won't be bored! That's just nice beaches there are not so many in the city - you will have to search with sand. By the way, Paphos is the future cultural capital of Europe in 2017.

Near Paphos is the city of Latchi (Latchi), a vacation in which nature lovers will remember (in the immediate vicinity of the Akamas peninsula-reserve). The area is prized for its good beaches, boat trips and good fish cuisine. A quiet place to relax with the whole family, and the Blue Lagoon beach is a fairy tale! You can go to the water park and zoo in Paphos.

Ayia Napa - a synonym for the word "party". Nightclubs, bars, restaurants, discos, shopping, luna and water parks - it's all very fun! Beautiful and cozy beaches complement the sunny picture. The city of good mood and fun! Nearby there are beautiful natural landscapes and the old walled city of Famagusta on the northern part of the island - for those who do not want to be completely without interesting historical sights, most of which are located on the far end of the island from Ayia Napa. For those who prefer educational rest to the beach, it is recommended to choose other cities.

Protaras, Paralimni - created for a quiet holiday with children or quiet gatherings in quiet bars. Apart from the beaches, there is nothing interesting, but for those who want "life" - Ayia Napa and everything with all its dignity is very close!

Limassol Is the business capital of Cyprus. Shopping. Few historical sites. Quite good, and sometimes luxurious hotels, but not the most beautiful beaches and an indispensable view of the cargo ships in the roadstead near the port. A long bike path along the embankment - this is the only advantage of the city. Although, no, there is one more advantage - the proximity to the geographical center of the coast of the island, to the Troodos mountains, make Limassol a very convenient starting point for car travel in Cyprus.

Northern Cyprus I will single out an independent region. Luxurious nature, numerous quiet and deserted beaches, a mass of historical monuments, low cost of renting housing - all this puts on the bowl a weighty argument in favor of this part of the island for all tourists - both beach type and sightseeing.

The only thing difficult to find in the North is nightlife. Not impossible, but difficult, so for those wishing to hang out, I advise you to come in a large company and independently organize beach parties on the shore!

True, they can object to me that northern Cyprus is one of the most sinister places in Europe, full of legal brothels and casinos, but this is not quite what I meant by the nightlife of a pious tourist;)

Rent of children's goods in Cyprus (strollers, armchairs, toys, household appliances)

Cyprus is considered to be a fashionable island, a trip to which, although it will be expensive, will certainly leave a tourist an unforgettable experience. The capital of this state is the city of Nicosia. and its resorts offer a variety both for those who are looking for pleasures at noisy sea parties, and for travelers who prefer educational leisure (or, for example, holidays with children). This island is the third largest island in the Mediterranean. And in this article you will find out what Cyprus has to offer you. An overview of the island with resorts is presented below.

Important information

Half of the island is mountainous. Most high point in Cyprus is the famous peak - Olympus. In the north there is a not very wide winding chain of mountains, which are five peaked peaks. If you climb any mountain, then you will have the opportunity to enjoy the picturesque view of forests sinking in green color, cozy villages, steep banks of mountain rivers. In addition, there are several salt lakes in the area.

Cyprus climate

In order to know how to choose a holiday resort in Cyprus correctly, you need to take into account the climatic factor. As a rule, the weather conditions here are considered to be among the mildest and healthiest on the planet, which is why the island has such a large number of long-livers. Most of the year Cyprus is illuminated by the sun's rays. In winter, the temperature indicator drops to 15 degrees (the mountain climate at this time, of course, is more severe). In the summer season, the temperature ranges from 22 to 31 degrees. Reviews of tourists indicate that it is better to go to Cyprus in summer. The warm season on the island begins a little earlier than in our area, namely in May. It gets colder in this region in October. In the same period, the sea begins to cool.

Snow cover on the island can be seen only in a certain area and at a certain time. It is artificially created and used for skiing. So, in the area near Olympos in winter there are winter resorts. The rainy season in Cyprus starts in October days and ends in April. Here you will be able to breathe absolutely clean and transparent air, enjoying the picturesque landscapes, especially in spring.

Temperature

The regions and resorts of Cyprus are quite diverse. However, on the most popular south coast average temperature at the beginning of summer it reaches 27-28 degrees, at the peak of hot weather (somewhere in August) - 30-31 o C. Accordingly, at the end of the holiday season it decreases to 25-27. So what are the places you should definitely visit? A brief is presented below.

Larnaca resorts

This settlement is located in the southeast of the coast. The flight from the capital of the state to the city of Larnaca takes approximately three to three and a half hours. The main attraction of the resort is considered to be the views of the Finikoudes promenade, from which you can see the yachts moored in the local bay. Most of the hotels are located in the tourist area, on the sandy coast of the bay, a few kilometers from the airport runways. The majority of hotels are establishments with two or three stars and inexpensive apartments.

Not far from the city of Larnaca is one of the oldest monasteries on the island - Stavrovouni. Travelers' reviews indicate that it is good to relax here with small children, since there are no additional noisy entertainments, and the depth of the sea is very small. What are the prices for holidays in Larnaca? On average, accommodation in an inexpensive hotel will cost 250 euros per week. If you prefer luxury apartments, then for 7 days of rent you need to pay at least 800. Lunch in a small restaurant will cost you 30 euros, and for entertainment and excursions you will have to pay from 100 to 200 (depending on your wishes).

Limassol resort

Limassol resort is located on the southern coast of the island. The city is considered to be quite noisy and suitable for a fun-filled resort. Both young people and people of mature age can have fun here. Respectable tourists also choose rest in Limassol. The beaches here are covered with either sand or pebbles. Ladies Mile is recommended as the best. Among the excursions that you can book, pay attention to the expositions of the Cyprus Museum of the Middle Ages (Limassol Fort), the District Archaeological Museum, the Museum of Folk Art, and the Municipal Gallery. In the vicinity of the city there are attractions such as the Kourion Museum, Kourion himself, the temples of Apollo, Amathus, St. George and the Panagia monastery.

Limassol offers entertainment that will not let you get bored at any time of the day. Here you have the opportunity to visit chic restaurants and taverns where you can taste Cypriot wine. In addition, Limassol has a large number of nightlife venues of all kinds, where you can dance and have a fun and unforgettable time.

The cost of a tour to Limassol depends on the number of days of stay at the resort and the people who have arrived on vacation. On average, 7 days of vacation will cost you 20,000 rubles (per person). Many lavish celebrations can be seen in the city. During the February period, carnivals are held here, in which people in costumes participate. At a parade or procession locals and tourists drink wine, chat. Thus, Limassol is good for those who love the nightlife that the island of Cyprus and its resorts offer.

Paphos resorts

The city is located in the southwestern part of the island. The emergence of a unique microclimate can be observed in this area. In the hottest period, you will not be tormented by the heat: your face and body will be cooled by the fresh sea breeze. Paphos is washed from several sides by the warm waters of the Mediterranean, therefore climatic conditions here are softer and suitable for any audience. The hotels are quite fashionable here. Ancient cultural monuments are protected as the cultural heritage of the planet. If you want to relax without children, then this is an excellent place among those offered by the island of Cyprus and its resorts. Prices in Paphos are for wealthy tourists who love noisy clubs, restaurants and pubs. On average, 7 days of rest in an elite resort in Cyprus costs 20-23 thousand rubles (per person).

Holidays in Ayia Napa

The city is located on the southeast coast of the island. If you have chosen Ayia Napa as your holiday destination, you will enjoy the golden sand and clean sea \u200b\u200bwater... Here most of the three-star hotels are located on the first lines. Thus, there are no other buildings or roads in front of the hotel and on the road to the sea. The main attraction in Ayia Napa is considered to be the construction of a 14th century monastery, which is located in the central part among restaurants and places for entertainment by the water. The exposition of the Museum of Marine Life is interesting for tourists. In it you can learn more about the life of the inhabitants of the Cypriot coast and the Mediterranean. In turn, in the folk museum you have a great opportunity to look at archaeological finds.

When night falls, the island of Cyprus and its resorts become more lively. And Ayia Napa is no exception. The night city offers a wide variety of bars and clubs that are open until morning. You can also find entertainment on the beach. Tourists generally enjoy water sports in Ayia Napa. Many also rent yachts and boats. In addition to these types of water activities, there is an opportunity to play tennis, play golf, ride a bike or horse. The largest themed water park is WaterWorld Waterpark, which is located in this city. Here you can find entertainment for both children and adults.
